"Velago" is short for "Veleros del Lago", which means "Sailboats of the Lake" in Spanish. We started business operating a MacGregor 36 catamaran on Guatemala's famous Lake Atitlan, 5,300 ft. high in the middle of the Guatemalan Highlands.

     Because of our love of sailing, we also became enamored of the developing maritime region of Rio Dulce, Guatemala, located in a corner of the Gulf of Honduras in the north-eastern part of the country. Because of the natural undisturbed beauty of the area and it's well-earned reputation as a safe hurricane hole, recent years have seen a tremendous increase in boaters who call Rio Dulce "home", and we have come to know them as our fellow sailors, neighbors and friends. Due to our over 25 years in the region, we were asked time and again for help "navigating" the country's legal and technical byways, until we finally decided to formalize the business as a full service brokerage; Velago Rio Dulce Boat Sales was born.
